January 26, 2024Just when you thought you had mastered all the street names in Dubai, surprise! Some of the trendiest neighborhoods like Emirates Hills, Motor City, and Sports City have undergone a stylish makeover.
A whopping 28 neighborhoods have received a fresh moniker, thanks to the Dubai Land Department’s recent initiative. One of the most significant changes is along Sheikh Zayed Road, now officially named Burj Khalifa in honor of the iconic 830-meter tower. This stretch is home to a diverse array of buildings, from apartments and offices to hotel apartments.
The motivation and exact timeline behind these changes by the Dubai Land Department remain a bit mysterious at the moment.
On a positive note, Dubai has introduced a creative approach to naming roads. In the initial phase, Al Khawaneej 2’s streets have adopted names inspired by local trees and flowers. So, we now have the likes of Al Ghaf Street, paying homage to the famous Ghaf tree, along with other cool names like Al Sidr, Basil, Al Faggy, Al Samar, and Al Sharish.
Several of Dubai’s bustling and well-known neighborhoods have embraced their new identities.
Emirates Hills First, Second, and Third have transformed into Al Thanyah Fifth, Third, and Fourth respectively. Notable changes include Sports City and Sport City First, now known as Al Hebiah Fourth and Al Hebiah Second.
Ranches has gracefully transitioned into Wadi Al Asafa Six, while Motor City proudly stands as Al Hebiah First.
These name changes follow the recent announcement of a revamp in the way roads are named in Dubai. The focus is on celebrating the emirate’s rich heritage and identity. For instance, Al Ghaf Street in Al Khawaneej 2 is named after one of the most beloved local tree species.
Stay tuned as Dubai continues to evolve, not just in its skyline, but also in the vibrant tapestry of its neighborhoods.
